Has the bubble burst

Being a guy that writes almost entirely horror I'm kind of nervous.  There's been so many that have come out.  Do you think the bubble's burst yet?  Should I start writing in other genres?

Stick with what you're good at. Don't be intimidated by the number of big-budget films that come out. If new screenwriters or romantic comedy get scared because a slew of those types of movies has recently hit the theaters then we wouldn't have too many good films. (Not my type of genre, just an example). There will always be a place for most genres, especially Horror. Fans of it never seem to get enough. So don't give up on the genre altogether, do something original instead of trying to find a category that's less traveled, because pretty much each has been covered a fair amount.

Personally, I cringed when I saw they were making Saw IV.

Oh good! I "try" to write horror! I hope you continue to do so! I am always looking for some good horror movies to watch! Seriously! I can't stop writing horror, maybe it's in our scary blood! har.har.

I think that there are two genres that will always get made whatever is in fashion.  One is horror and the other is 'gross-out' or 'teen' comedy.  There's two reasons for this.  First, the audience for these types of films is the same audience that spends the most time (and money) going to the movies, and second they're incredibly cheap to make, so the potential return for the investor that backs the next 'Saw' or 'American Pie' is huge.  The trick, however, is writing something new and bringing something fresh to the genre, so don't think 'should I write that?' think 'how can I write that better?' and your stuff will do well.

yeah i agree with everybody else. personally i don't get much into the horror genre. but that's just my taste. i mostly write crime/drama and it sometimes it's hard to think of original stories but i try my best. just don't give up. hope everything goes well for you

the thing, especially with horror, is that it needs to be fresh, original, and hopefully innovative. the whole concept of why this is scary needs to be innovative, or you're going to end up writing SAW 16.
